6 Benefits of Cushion Clamps

Cushion clamps offer a versatile fastening solution for hydraulic hoses, fuel lines, electrical harnesses and pneumatic tubing. Also known as cushioned clamps, they feature a padded lining. Cushioned clamps are still made of heavy-duty materials, such as carbon steel or stainless steel, but their interior is lined with a soft padding material. Below are six benefits of cushion clamps.

#1) Vibration Dampening

Cushion clamps offer excellent vibration dampening. Without adequate support, vibrations can cause components to loosen or fail. Threaded fasteners, for instance, may come out of the threaded holes in which they are installed, whereas electrical wiring may rub against surfaces. Cushion clamps protect components from damage such as this by absorbing vibrations. The padded lining minimizes unwanted movement caused by vibrations.

#2) Noise Dampening

In addition to vibration dampening, cushion clamps offer excellent noise dampening. Vibration and noise go hand in hand. When components vibrate, they typically make a lot of noise. Whether it’s a rattling or clanking noise, however, cushion clamps may offer a solution. They absorb vibrations so that components remain in place while producing little or no noise.

#3) Abrasion Protection

Another benefit of cushion clamps is abrasion protection. Pipes and hoses can sustain damage if they rub against the mounting hardware. Over time, abrasion-related damage may cut through them. Thankfully, cushion clamps are designed with a padded lining to protect against abrasion-related damage. Even if a pipe or hose moves, the clamp’s padded lining will protect it.

#4) Longer Component Lifespan

You can extend the lifespan of components by securing them with cushion clamps. They stabilize pipes, hoses and other components so that unwanted movement is less likely to occur. The end result is a longer lifespan and less required maintenance.

#5) Allows for Thermal Expansion

A benefit of cushion clamps that often goes unnoticed is that they allow for thermal expansion. Pipes and hoses often carry heated fluids. Heat, of course, causes things to expand, including pipes and hoses. The padded lining, though, will expand with these temperature changes. As the pipe or hose heats up, the padded lining will expand slightly.

#6) Strong Holding Power

Finally, cushion clamps offer very strong holding power. As previously mentioned, most are made of carbon steel or stainless steel. With their steel construction, they are able to withstand heavy loads while maintaining a tight grip on the components with which they are used — all while the padded lining dampens vibrations and noises.
