As shown in the adjacent photo, these mechanical fasteners are characterized by a<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>pre-bulbed shank. Multi-grip threaded inserts have a head and shank. While traditional fasteners typically have a smooth shank, however, multi-grip threaded inserts have a pre-bulbed shank that expands during installation. Here are six key benefits of multi-grip threaded inserts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#1) Supports Varied Material Thickness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can install multi-grip threaded inserts in thin and thick materials alike. Many traditional fasteners, such as standard rivets and nuts, are designed for a specific thickness. If a material is too thin or thick, it may not support them. This isn&#8217;t an issue with multi-grip threaded inserts because they support varied material thickness, ranging from thin sheet metal to thick wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#2) More Gripping Surface<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Multi-grip threaded inserts offer more gripping surface than traditional fasteners. They typically have a wider head and shoulder. The shoulder is the section of the shank that expands. This expansion helps multi-grip threaded inserts grip parts while simultaneously creating a strong hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#3) Doesn&#8217;t Require Rear Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Multi-grip threaded inserts are blind fasteners, so you don&#8217;t need access to the rear of the parts with which they are used. Installation begins with a pilot hole. After drilling a pilot hole in the parts, you can place a multi-grip threaded insert in the hole. Using the appropriate tool &#8212; a rivet tool, wrench, etc. &#8212; you can then pull the mandrel so that the multi-grip threaded insert collapses and expands while in the hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#4) Excellent Pull-Out Strength<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another benefit of multi-grip threaded inserts is excellent pull-out strength. Pulling forces can cause traditional fasteners to come out of holes &#8212; even threaded holes. Multi-grip threaded inserts, though, offer superior pull-out strength to resist such forces. Once the shank has expanded, it will create its own compressive force in the pilot hole to counter pulling forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#5) Vibration Resistant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vibrations aren&#8217;t a concern with multi-grip threaded inserts. They offer a high level of resistance to vibrations, making them ideal for industries like aviation and construction. Multi-grip threaded inserts essentially lock into materials. The expanded shank creates a very secure fastening point that resists both pulling forces and vibrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#6) Corrosion Resistant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many multi-grip threaded inserts are also resistant to corrosion. They are made of heavy-duty steel to maximize strength, but they are coated in a protective layer of zinc.
