In most applications, half of the dowel pin is inserted into one part, and the other half is inserted into an adjacent part. By residing inside both parts, dowel pins prevent lateral movement. There are different types of dowel pins, however, including pull-out dowel pins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are Pull-Out Dowel Pins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pull-out dowel pins are cylindrical mechanical fasteners with a threaded interior. They are pressed into holes to fasten and position multiple parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Common applications for pull-out dowel pins include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engine blocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engine cylinder heads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Furniture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fixture setups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Injection molds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CNC machinery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Standard vs Pull-Out Dowel Pins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All dowel pins feature a cylindrical body with a smooth exterior, and they are designed for use in pre-drilled holes. Standard dowel pulls, though, are completely solid, whereas pull-out dowel pins are threaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that most pull-out dowel pins aren&#8217;t fully threaded. Rather, only one side features a threaded interior. Standard dowel pins, though, are solid and devoid of any threading. Therefore, if you come across a dowel pin with threading, it&#8217;s a pull-out dowel pin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits of Pull-Out Dowel Pins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Why should you choose pull-out dowel pins over standard dowel pins exactly? With their threaded interior, they are super easy to remove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard dowel pins can be difficult to remove because there&#8217;s no way to securely grip them. You may be able to drill them out, but doing so will likely damage the surrounding material. Pull-out dowel pins offer a solution. Rather than drilling, you can use a threaded tool to safely remove them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The threaded interior supports various threaded tools, such as a slide hammer. To remove a pull-out dowel pin, simply connect a slide hammer or similar tool to the threaded end. You can then pull the dowel pin out of the hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also remove pull-out dowel pins without accessing the back of them. Standard dowel pins, on the other hand, often require access to the front and back because they must be drilled out. Pull-out dowel pins, however, receive their namesake because they can &#8220;pulled&#8221; out of holes, including blind holes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pull-out dowel pins maintain the same precise alignment and holding strength as standard dowel pins while eliminating one of the biggest frustrations: removal.
