Standard hinges consist of two leafs, a knuckle and a pin. Like all hinges, they allow for a limited angle of rotation with the surfaces on which they are installed. There are other types of hinges available, though, including bi-fold hinges. Bi-fold hinges still allow for a limited angle or rotation, but they feature an entirely different design than their standard counterparts. What are bi-fold hinges exactly?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview of Bi-Fold Hinges<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A bi-fold hinge is a mechanical bearing that allows the surfaces on which they are installed to swing open in both directions. Standard hinges, of course, only allow surfaces to swing open in a single direction. If installed on a door, for instance, you might be be able to open the door by pulling or pushing it &#8212; but you won&#8217;t be able to open the door using both methods. Bi-fold hinges solve this problem by allowing the door or other surfaces to swing open in both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Bi-Fold Hinges Work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless you&#8217;re familiar with them, you might be wondering how bi-fold hinges work. They are able to provide multi-directional rotation thanks to their design. All bi-fold hinges feature three leafs. This is in stark contrast to standard hinges, which only feature two hinges. With three leafs, bi-fold hinges aren&#8217;t restricted to any single direction. Rather, they can swing open in both directions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bi-fold hinges contain three leafs, two knuckles and two pins. The two outermost leafs are installed on the surfaces, whereas the middle leaf provides the multi-directional rotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits of Bi-Fold Hinges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bi-fold hinges are undoubtedly convenient. Since they offer multi-directional rotation, they provide a superior level of convenience when compared to standard hinges. You can install them on doors, panels or other surfaces. Once installed, you&#8217;ll be able to open the surfaces in both directions. Standard hinges are more restrictive since they can only swing open in a single direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bi-fold hinges are easy to install. They require the same method of installation as standard hinges. Most bi-fold hinges feature holes for fasteners. You can drive a fastener through a hole and into the door or surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find bi-fold hinges made of a variety of materials. If you&#8217;re planning to use them in a humid environment, you may want to choose stainless steel bi-fold hinges. With a stainless steel construction, you won&#8217;t have to worry about your bi-fold hinges rusting.
