This day lives up to its namesake by raising awareness and support to the country’s manufacturing industry — and industry that generates more than $1,696.7 billion each year! In an effort to keep pace with other leading countries, the U.S. has dedicated the first Friday in October as National Manufacturing Day. So, what happened during the 2015 National Manufacturing Day?<\/p>\n

One of the many goals of National Manufacturing Day is to address common myths and misconceptions surrounding the manufacturing industry. By shedding light on the subject, organizers hope to stimulate this industry so it can grow even larger and more successful in the years to come. Many people assume that manufacturing has changed very little, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Granted, there are still some manufacturing companies that use old machines and techniques; however, there’s been a growing emphasis towards the use of more modern, advanced machines and techniques. 3D printing, for instance, has edged its way into the U.S. manufacturing industry, allowing companies to print fully functional 3D objects via a computer program or application.<\/p>\n

Another common misconception regarding U.S. manufacturing involves the salary of worker. Many people assume that manufacturing workers get paid very little. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average salary for a manufacturing worker in the U.S. is roughly $77,000, which is greater than the national average.<\/p>\n

“Supported by a group of industry sponsors and co-producers, MFG DAY is designed to amplify the voice of individual manufacturers and coordinate a collective chorus of manufacturers with common concerns and challenges<\/em>,” wrote MFGDay.com<\/a>. “The rallying point for a growing mass movement, MFG DAY empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive<\/em>.”<\/p>\n
