Like all hinges, they are used to connect two objects while simultaneously allowing one of the objects to rotate away from the other object. Marine hinges, however, are designed specifically for marine applications. They are able to weather the moist and harsh environments of the open waters without succumbing to damage. Here are five important things to consider when choosing marine hinges.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#1) Material<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You should consider the material when choosing marine hinges. Different marine hinges are made of different materials. The most common material used in their construction is stainless steel. Stainless steel marine hinges are strong and durable, yet they are also resistant to corrosion. Other types of marine hinges are made of brass. Brass can corrode, but it&#8217;s immune to rusting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#2) Mount Type<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to consider the mount type when choosing marine hinges. All marine hinges require mounting. You must mount them onto the objects with which you intend to use them. Nonetheless, mount types can vary. Some marine hinges require top mounting, whereas others require flush mounting.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#3) Finish<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Something else to consider when choosing marine hinges is the finish. Most marine hinges don&#8217;t consist of bare metal. Whether a marine hinge is made of stainless steel, brass or any other type of metal, it will likely be finished. Finishing is a metalworking process that&#8217;s designed to protect against corrosion. You can find electro-polished marine hinges, for instance. With an electro-polished finish, they offer a superior level of protection against corrosion.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#4) Swaged vs Unswaged<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are swaged marine hinges as well as unswaged marine hinges. Unswaged marine hinges are the most common type. They look like standard hinges in which the leafs are close together and directly joined by a pin in the center. Swaged marine hinges, on the other hand, have offset leafs. They have two leafs as well, but the swaged hinges have offset leafs that eliminates the gap when used in the closed position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#5) Size<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, you can&#8217;t choose marine hinges without considering the size. Marine hinges are available in many different sizes. You can even order them in a custom size to fit your specific application. When choosing marine hinges, consider the length, width and diameter. They should be appropriately sized to fit the application for which you intend to use them.
