Huck Fastening Systems

Huck fasteners are used in most U.S. and European commercial aircraft and military aircraft, and also in heavy-duty trucks and trailers, railroad cars, bridges, automobiles and recreational vehicles, school buses, and commercial buildings. 

Huck fasteners systems include blind rivets, blind bolts, and lock bolts, as well as a complete line of hydraulic tooling and installation equipment. They offer quiet and fast installation.

The Huck fasteners will not come loose even under extreme vibration, the joints are maintenance-free with no need to torque or re-torque. Huck Lockbolts

Huck Lockbolts are precision engineered two-piece fasteners. After installation, they never come loose despite a vibration-intensive environment. These lockbolts give direct metal-to-metal contact so they eliminate the transverse vibration found in most nuts and bolts. They offer superior joining strength, shear, and tensile strength for a great fastening solution.

The Huck Lockbolt has two parts, a collar and a pin. The bolt is inserted into one side of the joint material and the collar is placed over the bolt from the other side. The joint must be able to be reached from both sides. You use a Huck installation tool to swage the collar materials into the grooves of the bolt. This makes a permanent and vibration-resistant fastening.

The Huck blind fasteners provide strength from the combined resistance against the failure of the pin and sleeve. This happens along the joint shear line between fastened plates. The tensile strength of structural blind fasteners is different from lockbolts because they make a blind side positive lock either by bulbing or expanding of the sleeve. The sleeve, helped by the permanently secured pin, resists failure along its center line.

Bulbing is when the sleeve of the fastener is compressed, making it fold outwards to form a bulb. This shapes tightly against the joint material. Then the pin is locked into place, the pintail drops off, completing the installation. Expanding the sleeve happens when pulling the pintail makes the head of the pin draw into the sleeve. This causes a footprint to form against the joint material.

Huck’s Blind Fasteners

However, Huck’s pre-assembled, one-piece blind fasteners are made for when the joint material can only be accessed from one side. The blind fastener is placed in a pre-drilled hole and then is put in place by using an installation tool that pulls the mandrel or pin head into the rivet body, which expands the rivet body and makes it flare on the blind side of the joint material. This creates a permanent and vibration-resistant fastening. Installation is fast and easy.

More Fastener Options


Flathead nails are used most often and provide firm holding power. Checkered flatheads can be used for framing projects because the nails prevent the hammer from sliding off the head surface. Countersunk heads have more of a conical shape and are often used in applications where the nail is made to be driven below the surface of the material and then concealed.

Smooth shank nails are the most common all-rounder, while barbed and screw shanks ensure greater holding power. Fluted shanks are only suited to masonry nails. Diamond point nails are general purpose nails. Long points can be driven into the material further, but short points will prevent splitting and damage to the material.


Fine threaded screws can be used for attaching materials to metal, while coarse thread screws are used for holding strength in wood. Self-tapping points are common with deck screws, while most screws have common short points and have washers and nuts.

Construction Fastener Coatings

Fasteners intended to be used in exterior applications should have an advanced coating. Hot dipped galvanized coated fasteners are dipped in molten zinc. They are a little more expensive than regular fasteners and are effective and durable. Hot galvanized fasteners go through a heating process before they are rolled in zinc powder or chips which cause them to bond to the surface and provides a durable and protective coating. Because the coating is inconsistent, these fasteners may not be the best when there is extensive exposure to the elements.

Electro galvanized fasteners complete a process where zinc is electroplated to the fastener. These fasteners are effective and less expensive than other fastener options. Electro galvanized fasteners are often used in pneumatic applications.

Stainless steel and aluminum fasteners are resistant to corrosion and are durable, but may not be the best when exceptional strength and holding power is required.
