The Benefits of Using a Drywall Cart

If your job involves hanging or transporting drywall, you should consider investing in a drywall cart. Drywall carts are specialized material handling carts that are designed for drywall. Rather than using a traditional dolly or hand truck, you can load drywall sheets on a drywall cart. Drywall carts offer several benefits that make them a smart investment.

The Right Size

Drywall carts are the perfect size for drywall sheets. In the United States, the standard size for drywall sheets is 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. Drywall carts are the perfect size for these panels. A typical drywall cart is 49 inches tall, 47 inches long and 26 inches wide. Most drywall carts can handle several sheets of full-sized drywall.

Supporting Frame

One of the differences between drywall carts and other types of industrial carts is that the former has a supporting frame. The supporting frame consists of an upright metal U-shaped bar. Rather than lying drywall sheets down flat, you can prop them up against this supporting frame. Moving large sheets of drywall is a breeze thanks to the cart’s supporting frame.

High Load Capacity

Drywall is heavy, but drywall carts have a high load capacity to withstand their weight. Depending on the thickness, a sheet of drywall may weigh 40 to 50 pounds on average. If you’re moving a half-dozen sheets, that’s up to 300 pounds. With their steel construction, however, drywall carts can handle heavy loads. Some of them, in fact, are rated for up to 2,000 pounds.

Maneuverability

Drywall carts are easy to maneuver. They are constructed with high-quality casters, such as rubber and cast iron swivel casters. Swivel casters are distinguished from other casters by their ability to turn in all directions. Even when traversing through narrow halls and corridors, you can easily maneuver a drywall cart.

Brakes

A common feature of drywall carts is a braking system. When engaged, the braking system will lock the wheels so that they become immobile. The drywall cart will stop rolling, so you won’t have to worry about your drywall sheets falling and breaking.

Versatile

While they are typically used to move drywall sheets, drywall carts can be used for other purposes. You can use them to transport any large and flat objects. Maybe you want to move a piece of plywood, or perhaps you want to move a cement board. Regardless, as long it’s flat, you can prop it up against the supporting frame of a drywall cart.

Protection From MSDs

Using a drywall cart can lower your risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). MSDs are common when moving heavy and awkwardly shaped materials like drywall sheets. With a drywall cart, though, you won’t have to manually move drywall sheets. You can place them on the cart, and then you can roll the drywall sheets to the desired location.
