5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Quad Steer Trailer

If you regularly transport heavy materials or objects, you may want to invest in a quad steer trailer. Also known as a four-wheel steer trailer, it features a flat platform-like deck with four wheels on the bottom. Unlike with traditional carts, however, you can steer the wheels of a quad steer trailer, allowing for improved maneuverability in tight spaces. Here are five important things to consider when choosing a quad steer trailer.

#1) Material

You should consider the material when choosing a quad steer trailer. Because they are used in material handling applications, quad steer trailers are typically made of durable materials. Common materials in which they are made include galvanized steel, powder-coated steel and aluminum. Steel quad trailers are stronger, but aluminum quad trailers are lighter and less expensive.

#2) Deck Size

Quad steer trailers are available in different deck sizes. The deck is the base on which you place materials and objects. Some quad steer trailers have a longer or wider deck than others. As a result, they can handle larger materials and objects. Keep in mind, though, that quad steer trailers with a long or wide deck require more space to turn — even with their wheel-based steering system.

#3) Hitch

The hitch is an important part of a quad steer trailer. Located at the front, it will allow you to connect the trailer to a vehicle. Once connected, you can then drive the quad steer trailer. You should choose a quad steer trailer with a hitch that’s compatible with the vehicle with which you intend to use it.

#4) Load Capacity

You can’t ignore the load capacity when choosing a quad steer trailer. As the name suggests, it will determine the maximum weight the trailer can support. Some quad steer trailers have a load capacity of 1,000 pounds, meaning they can safely support up to 1,000 pounds of materials and objects. Others, however, have a load capacity of up 6,000 pounds, making them ideal for industrial use.

#5) Tires

Don’t forget to check the tires when shopping for a quad steer trailer. Nearly all quad steer trailers have four tires, but some of them have different types of tires than others. Pneumatic tires are a popular choice because of their shock-absorption qualities. They are filled with air, which allows them to absorb shock better than solid rubber tires. If you’re planning to use it outdoors or on uneven terrain, you may want to choose a quad steer trailer with pneumatic tires.
