How to Choose a Cage Cart

If you’re tired of hauling heavy boxes or loads by hand, you may want to invest in a cage cart. Also known as a roll container, it’s a versatile material handling cart that can improve your productivity while simultaneously lowering your risk of bodily injury. You can place objects inside of a cage cart, after which you can roll them to a new location. Follow these tips to choose the right cage cart for your business’s needs.

Durable Construction

You should choose a cage cart that’s made of a strong and durable material. Cage carts receive their namesake from their cage-like, wheeled design. They feature several vertical wheels on a wheeled platform. However, the materials from which these walls and platforms are made vary.

Some cage carts are made of aluminum. Others are made of stainless steel. Regardless, you should choose a cage cart made of a strong and durable material. Otherwise, it may not last.

Adequate Load Capacity

How much weight can the cage cart support? All cage carts have a weight limit or “load capacity.” Exceeding this limit will jeopardize the cart’s integrity, thus increasing the risk of damage to the cage cart itself as well as the objects it’s carrying.

The good news is that industrial cage carts are designed with a high load capacity. Some of them can handle up to 1,600 pounds.

Number of Sides

You should also consider the number of sides when choosing a cage cart. Cage carts are available in different wall configurations. The photo above depicts a three-walled cage cart. As shown, the cage cart features three walls or sides. But you can still find cage carts in other wall configurations

There are two-walled cage carts, for instance. Two-walled cage carts only have two sides, making them easier to load than their three-walled counterparts. There are also four-walled cage carts. Four-walled cage carts feature a completely closed design that protects their contents from falling out.

The Size

You can’t choose the right cage cart without considering the size. Some cage carts are bigger than others. When shopping for a cage cart, you should see its dimensions listed, such as length, width and height. By referencing these dimensions, you can determine its size.

If you’re planning to use it to carry tall objects, you may want to choose a cage cart with tall walls or sides. Some of the shorter cage carts measure just 37 inches tall, whereas others measure up to 68 inches tall.
