5 Features to Consider When Shopping for Leveling Feet

Leveling feet by Monroe Engineering

Failure to level furniture, machines, equipment and other objects is a serious mistake. Objects that aren’t properly level may fall over, resulting in damage or even bodily injury. Fortunately, leveling feet offer a simple solution. Leveling feet are pads that you can install on the bottom of an object. Once installed, you can adjust the height of the leveling feet so that they level the object. Below are five features to consider when shopping for leveling feet.

#1) Gliding Bottom

Some leveling feet are designed with a gliding bottom. Known as adjustable glides, they are commonly used with furniture, as well as other objects, that require moving. With adjustable glides, you can move a piece of furniture or an object by gliding it on the floor.

#2) Vibration Dampening

For leveling applications that involve vibrations, you may want to choose vibration-dampening leveling feet. Leveling feet aren’t used exclusively on furniture. They are often used on machines and equipment as well. Machines and equipment, of course, may vibrate during operation. Vibration-dampening leveling feet feature padding that’s able to absorb vibrations.

#3) Tapped vs Stud

Most leveling feet can be classified as either tapped or stud, depending on their design and how they are installed. Tapped leveling feet feature a female design, whereas stud leveling feet feature a male design. All tapped leveling feet essentially have a threaded hole. You can install them by twisting them onto the threaded bolts on the bottom of an object. Stud leveling feet, conversely, have a threaded bolt. You can install them by twisting them onto the threaded holes on the bottom of an object.

#4) Swivel

You might be surprised to learn that some leveling feet feature a swiveling action. Swivel leveling feet are still connected to the bottom of an object for the purpose of leveling the object. Rather than remaining static, though, they are able to move and swivel. Swivel leveling feet are commonly used in leveling applications that involve an angled or otherwise irregular surface.

#5) Polymount

You may want to choose polymount leveling feet. Polymount leveling feet are among the most versatile leveling feet on the market. Available in both tapped and stud styles, they feature a carbon steel construction with a zinc finish or 300-grade stainless steel. Polymount leveling feet are available in different sizes. The size of the base can range from 2 inches to 5 inches in diameter.
