Toggle pads offer a convenient and effective solution for uneven objects. Also known as leveling pads, they are self-aligning feet. You can install them on the bottom of appliances, machines, furniture, equipment and other objects. Once adjusted, the toggle pads will level the object with which they are used. If you’re thinking about using them, however, you’ll need to choose the right toggle pads.
Strong and Durable Material
You should choose toggle pads made of a strong and durable material. They must be able to safely support the weight of the objects with which they are used. Toggle pads made of cheap materials may deform or buckle, which can jeopardize the objects’ integrity. Fortunately, you can avoid problems such as these by choosing toggle pads made of a strong and durable material, such as steel.
Corrosion-Resistant Finish
Even if they are made of a strong and durable material, toggle pads can succumb to corrosion. Exposure to moisture or even oxygen can cause them to corrode. To protect against corrosion, you should choose toggle pads with a corrosion-resistant finish. Corrosion-resistant finishes, such as zinc oxide, are characterized by a protective outer layer. This outer layer acts as a barrier by shielding the underlying material from oxidative stress that could otherwise lead to corrosion.
Angle of Movement
Toggle pads typically have an angle of movement. As the name suggests, it represents the angle at which they can move. Toggle pads aren’t fixed. Rather, they have some degree of movement. Known as an angle of movement, it’s responsible for their self-aligning properties. Most toggle pads, for instance, have a 10-degree angle of movement, meaning they can move in a relatively narrow 10-degree angle.
Toggle pads with an angle of movement — even just 10 degrees — allows for a swivel action. They can swivel in all directions. With their swivel action, the toggle pads are easy to use. Just remember to check the angle of movement when shopping for toggle pads.
Type TP vs NS
There are two primary types of toggle pads: TP and NS. They are both used for the same purpose of leveling equipment and objects, and they both feature a similar angle of movement. Type TP and NS toggle pads, though, have different designs. Type TP toggle pads feature a standard hex nut at the top, whereas type NS toggle pads feature a larger hex socket at the top.
