Not all handles are the same. There are different types of handles, including bridge handles. Bridge handles feature a simple, ergonomic design that makes them easy to use. And while they may look similar to other handles, bridge handles feature a unique shape.

What Are Bridge Handles?

Bridge handles are pull-to-open handles. They are known as “bridge handles” because of their bridge-like shape. They feature a raised bar section in the center that slopes down on the sides.

Common Applications for Bridge Handles

You can use bridge handles on doors. As long as a door features a flat front — and it can hold threaded fasteners — it should support a bridge handle. Bridge handles are a popular choice for doors because of their simple design. Once installed, they will provide a bar that you can grab and pull to open a door.

You can also use bridge handles on cabinets. Cabinets require some type of handle or knob to open and close. Bridge handles offer a solution. Installing a bridge handle on a cabinet drawer will allow you to open the drawer by pulling it.

While most bridge handles are used on wooden doors and cabinets, they can be used on aluminum profiles. You can install a bridge handle on just about any aluminum profile. If you need to open or otherwise pull an aluminum profile, you may want to install a bridge handle on it.

Things to Consider When Shopping for Bridge Handles

When shopping for bridge handles, check to see what type of threaded fasteners are required for installation. Most bridge handles have a single hole at each end. To install a bridge handle, you’ll need to place it against the door or surface, after which you can drive a pair of threaded fasteners through these holes.

The specific type of threaded fastener that a bridge handle requires for installation, though, may vary. Some bridge handles may require fasteners with wider threads than others. Threads can be narrow or wide. Narrow-thread fasteners have a shorter distance between their individual threads than wide-thread fasteners. M6 screws, for instance, have a thread distance of 6 millimeters. The distance between each of their threads is 6 millimeters.

You should consider the material when shopping for bridge handles. Most bridge handles are made of a single piece of material, such as plastic. Plastic bridge handles are lightweight, comfortable and durable. These properties make them a popular choice.
