You can’t shop for quick release pins without considering the handle type. While all quick release pins have a handle, the shape and design of their respective handles can vary. There are several different types of handles found on quick release pins. By familiarizing yourself with them, you can choose the right quick release handle.
T-Handle
One of the most common types of handles for quick release pins is the T-handle. As shown in the adjacent photo, it lives up to its namesake by featuring the shape of the letter. You can grip a T-handle quick release pin with a single hand, followed by pulling it to release the connected pin. T-handle quick release pins allow for a strong and secure grip, making them a popular choice.
Ring Handle
Some quick release pins have a ring handle. Ring handles don’t offer anywhere to grip. Rather, they consist of a circular, ring-shaped piece of metal that you can pull to release the connected pin. Because they don’t support a traditional grip, ring handle quick release pins are used in applications that require minimal force. The main advantage of ring handle quick release pins, however, is their size. They are smaller, and therefore require less space, than quick release pins with other handle types.
L-Handle
Another common type of quick release pin handle is the L-handle. L-handle quick release pins are similar to their T-handle counterparts. The only difference is that L-handle quick release pins have the extension on one side, whereas T-handle quick release pins have them on both sides. L-handle quick release pins are often used in applications where there’s no a sufficient amount of space for a T-handle quick release pin.
Ball Handle
A lesser-known type of handle for quick release pins is the ball handle. Ball handle quick release pins are exactly what they sound like. They feature a ball at the end, which you can grip to release the connected pin. Ball handle quick release pins offer a strong and firm grip while conserving space in the process.
Button Hole
Button hole is a type of quick release pin handle that’s characterized by the use of a button. You don’t have to pull or turn them. With a button hole quick release pin, you can press the button. All button hole quick release pins have a button that’s used to release the connected pin.
